This summer was marked by not one, but two record-setting lottery jackpots that ballooned at the same time. The first to pop was a $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot won in California, and the other a $1.602 billion Mega Millions jackpot hit in Florida.Yet we still don’t know who the winners are. Will we ever? The short answer is yes, but it could be a while. It’s most likely the Powerball winner we’ll get to know first. A ticket matching all six winning numbers drawn on July 19 — 7, 10, 11, 13, and 24, and red Powerball 24 — was sold at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in downtown Los Angeles. Can a lottery jackpot winner remain anonymous? Not in these states Initially, it was believed the lucky winner was spotted at the store just days after the drawing. But the granddaughter of the store’s co-owner later told Daily Mail that woman wasn’t the winner. The real winner has yet to be confirmed. In California, winners of such large payouts have one full year from the da...Jackson racks up sacks, stealing Bosa’s spotlight in 49ers’ win over Steelers

PITTSBURGH — It turns out that Nick Bosa’s contract holdout did not keep him completely out of the loop with the 49ers, especially when it came to Drake Jackson’s progress.“I was watching tape throughout the holdout,” Bosa said. “It was clear as day he’s made strides, with his work ethic, his preparation and all his moves out there.”Jackson produced three of the 49ers’ five sacks in Sunday’s 30-7 rout of the Steelers to open the season.“He’s really been detailed and put on some weight and he’s still moving like he moves. He’s going to be dangerous,” added Bosa.Safety Tashaun Gipson was thrilled to learn that Jackson, his locker-mate in Santa Clara, had as many sacks Sunday as he did all of last season as a rookie.“Drake doesn’t talk that much. He’s got an old soul. I couldn’t be happier for a guy like that,” Gipson said. “We know he’s a good player, and having him make a statement like that is ...Inside the team meeting that SF Giants hope can propel them into the postseason

SAN FRANCISCO — What can a team meeting accomplish? A regular feature of many clubhouses over the years, it’s something that’s easy to credit when it’s followed by success and equally easy to dismiss when it doesn’t lead to the desired results.“I’ve always been against meetings,” Giants reliever Luke Jackson said before their series finale against the Rockies, ESPN’s Sunday night game of the week. “I’ve been a part of most meetings and we lose afterward and they’re terrible. But this year, we’re 2-0 after meetings.”The latest, first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, came Friday, before their first game against Colorado, and the message came from on high. President Farhan Zaidi was first to address the group, but speakers also included longtime coach Ron Wotus and a handful of veterans. What followed were back-to-back wins, their first of September after starting the month with six straight losses. The team also responded to...Santa Rosa police identify man who allegedly killed father with rock

CHICAGO (AP) — Jordan Love looked like he might be ready to follow in the footsteps of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, throwing for three touchdowns to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 38-20 season-opening victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.Aaron Jones ran for a touchdown and caught one, helping the Packers pull away in the second half for their ninth straight win over the Bears. Green Bay was 25-5 against Chicago with Rodgers, counting an NFC championship game win at Soldier Field in the 2010 season, and the Packers were 22-10 in games Favre started. The Bears came in thinking bigger things are in store for them and quarterback Justin Fields after a busy offseason. But for a team that set a franchise record for losses with 14 last year, this was a discouraging start.Love completed 15 of 27 passes for 245 yards and posted a 123.2 rating. It was a promising outing for a quarterback whose only other start was a loss at Kansas City in 2021 when Rodgers was sidelined with COVID-19.Jo...Rams show they can be more than competitive and thump Seahawks 30-13 in season opener

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — On Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts got a glimpse at the promise, poise and power that convinced them to draft Anthony Richardson fourth overall in April. Only this time at Lucas Oil Stadium, the former Florida quarterback was wearing a helmet and pads instead of shorts and a T-shirt. And instead of working in front of NFL scouts, he was playing in front of a capacity crowd and facing AFC South champion Jacksonville.Afterward, Colts coaches and fans seemed to like the first impressions Richardson made in his professional debut. Richardson, meanwhile, was not satisfied with the results.“We didn’t win, so I didn’t do good enough,” he said following a 31-21 loss that extended Indy’s opening day winless streak to 10. “But first game, first experience, felt good just being out there with my teammates.
