Mets pitchers adjusting to pitch clock: ‘You better figure it out because it’s not going away’

MILWAUKEE — The noise around the pitch clock died down after a few weeks into spring training, but with the regular season now underway it’s become a topic of conversation once again.It’s clear there is a learning curve for all involved. The Mets had four pitch clock violations Monday in the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, two by pitcher Carlos Carrasco and one each by hitters Mark Canha and Omar Narvaez. Four isn’t exactly a small number and the Mets are looking closely at what happened in order to learn from the timing moving forward.“I think everybody is going through some adjustment periods,” manager Buck Showalter said. “It’s umpires, it’s clock operators, it’s us, it’s other teams we’re playing but you better figure it out because it’s not going away.”Carrasco was charged with a ball before even throwing his first pitch of the day in his Monday start in Milwaukee. Magic’s foundation distributes $1 million to Central Florida organizations

Through the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, the Magic distributed 17 grants totaling $1 million to 24 organizations during a ceremony Tuesday ahead of the team’s home game vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers.Osceola County Council on Aging and AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida received the largest grants at $100,000 and $55,000, respectively.The 10 organizations that received the $50,000 grants were: Children’s Home Society of Florida, Education Foundation Osceola County, Foundation for Foster Children, Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, Hope Partnership, Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families, Junior Achievement of Central Florida, Page 15, University Central Florida Foundation and YMCA of Central Florida.The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools and Foundation for Seminole State College of Florida both received $40,000 grants.The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra was granted $35,000 while Harbor House of Central Florida and Lighthouse Central F...

(AP) — Doctors accused of not providing enough care to infants born during abortion procedures in Kansas could face lawsuits and criminal charges under a bill that won final passage Tuesday in the state’s Republican-controlled Legislature. The legislation faces an uncertain fate in a legal and political climate that’s made Kansas an outlier on abortion policy among states with GOP-led legislatures. The Kansas House voted 86-36 to approve a proposed “born-alive infants protection” law similar to a proposed law that Montana voters rejected in November. The Senate approved the measure last week and it goes next to Democratic Gov. Wall Street dips, snaps win streak after weak economic data

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks fell on Wall Street Tuesday after reports on the economy came in weaker than expected. The S&P 500 dropped 23.91 points, or 0.6%, to 4,100.60 to break a four-day winning streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 198.77, or 0.6%, to 33,402.38, and the Nasdaq composite sank 63.13, or 0.5%, to 12,126.33. Investors are still split on whether the U.S. economy will fall into a recession and how badly corporate profits are set to drop. The biggest question remains what the Federal Reserve will do next with interest rates after hiking them furiously over the last year to get high inflation under control. The reports on job openings and factory orders released Tuesday may have heightened recession fears.
